The main objective of the work reported in this monograph is the fabrication of an experimental apparatus to detect slowly evolving anomalies (i.e., decrease in stiffness due to fatigue failure) in complex mechanical systems at an early stage by observing time series data of the available ultrasonic and performance measuring sensors. The information on evolving anomaly will serve as an input to the life extending control policy that will, in turn, generate corrective actions to mitigate fatigue crack damage in the specimen structures and thereby extend the remaining life of the system without any significant loss in performance. The monograph presents the design requirements for the experimental testbed. Physical modeling gives out the expected resonant frequencies. Finally, system identification presents the actual resonant frequencies achieved from the setup and compares the same with the theoretical physical model. The monograph discusses the proximity of the resonant frequencies achieved through physical modeling and system identification and presents conclusions on the same.
Laser tracking system (LTS) is one of the most powerful measurement and tracking instruments, and it has been widely used in accurate target tracking and measurement process in commercial or military applications in recent years. However traditionally, most approaches on the LTS provided very little detailed and complete information on building, developing, testing and troubleshooting processes for the LTS. To fill this gap, this book provides very detailed descriptions and analyses, both theoretically and practically, on optical, echanical, electronic and computer control programs in how to build and implement a real LTS with a complete set of documents. Some novel approaches, such as self-calibration of tracking gimbals and fuzzy logic control, are also covered in the book. A technical manual that provides detailed practical designs and considerations is also included. With the help of this book, a college student, researcher and engineer can build a real LTS more easily and conveniently.
Based on the available literature, the Vapour Compression Refrigeration (VCR) systems are inefficient in Nature. This is because of the usage of inefficient components in VCR System. The Expander is playing a major role in the VCR system Coefficient of Performance (COP). The refrigerants are causing to increase Global Warming due to increase in Greenhouse gases in the environment. To overcome the above issues, in the present work R134a used Two-Phase Ejector based VCR system was simulated. The simulations results are revealed that the Ejector used vapor Compressions Refrigeration (EVCR) system 19% efficient than Conventional Vapor Compressions Refrigeration (VCR) system at optimal operating parameters. Finally, it is proved that the Two-Phase Ejector can replace the Capillary tube/ expansion device in VCR System.

Power quality is a major issue in the distribution system. Now-a-days power system become very complex with interconnected long distance transmission lines. The interconnected Grids become unstable as the heavy loads vary dynamically in their magnitude and phase angle hence power factor varies. Therefore, in order to meet increasing power demand, utilities must rely on power export arrangements through the existing transmission systems. FACTS controllers, such as Static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) and Static VAR compensator (SVC) are found to be the latest and very effective technology of power electronic switching devices in power distribution network. This work presents the application of D-STATCOM in a distribution network to control voltage and power flow and thus improves the power quality. The system model is obtained using rotating d-q frame. The non-linear load generates an appreciable amount of harmonic which causes distortion. This harmonic distortion can even affect the performance of other loads connected in the system. D-STATCOM injects a compensating current in to the power system network and thus improves the power factor.

Human fingerprints are rich in details called minutiae, which can be used as identification marks for fingerprint verification. The goal of this paper is to develop a complete system for fingerprint verification through extracting and matching minutiae. To achieve good minutiae extraction in fingerprints with varying quality, preprocessing in form of image enhancement and binarization is first applied on fingerprints before they are evaluated. Many methods have been combined to build a minutia extractor and a minutia matcher. Minutia, extract all the details after optimization with the fingers of someone else´s imprint. In this book, program is coded by MATLAB. For the program, some optimization at coding level and algorithm level are proposed to improve the performance of my fingerprint recognition system. These performance enhancements are shown by experiments conducted upon a variety of fingerprint images.
Geographical Information System (GIS) is found to be a multipurpose tool that can be employed for a variety of tasks related to bus transport. In GIS networks provides a set of tools to build network data sets consisting of the features and their attributes necessary to model the flow of resources through the network. GIS can be applied to any service that can be dependent on network like water supply, power, Supply , etc so it could be of great help for transportation engineering. In this dissertation a case study of Vadodara Intra-city bus services (VITCOS) for determining the optimal routes as an objective with the existing transportation system, is studied. During dissertation the secondary and primary data are used. Thematic maps have been prepared for population, election ward traffic volume on network. The congested links have been identified, by volume/ capacity ratio. The shortest route for optimal operation of intra-city bus services have been evaluated.
