The main objective of the work reported in this monograph is the fabrication of an experimental apparatus to detect slowly evolving anomalies (i.e., decrease in stiffness due to fatigue failure) in complex mechanical systems at an early stage by observing time series data of the available ultrasonic and performance measuring sensors. The information on evolving anomaly will serve as an input to the life extending control policy that will, in turn, generate corrective actions to mitigate fatigue crack damage in the specimen structures and thereby extend the remaining life of the system without any significant loss in performance. The monograph presents the design requirements for the experimental testbed. Physical modeling gives out the expected resonant frequencies. Finally, system identification presents the actual resonant frequencies achieved from the setup and compares the same with the theoretical physical model. The monograph discusses the proximity of the resonant frequencies achieved through physical modeling and system identification and presents conclusions on the same.
Laser tracking system (LTS) is one of the most powerful measurement and tracking instruments, and it has been widely used in accurate target tracking and measurement process in commercial or military applications in recent years. However traditionally, most approaches on the LTS provided very little detailed and complete information on building, developing, testing and troubleshooting processes for the LTS. To fill this gap, this book provides very detailed descriptions and analyses, both theoretically and practically, on optical, echanical, electronic and computer control programs in how to build and implement a real LTS with a complete set of documents. Some novel approaches, such as self-calibration of tracking gimbals and fuzzy logic control, are also covered in the book. A technical manual that provides detailed practical designs and considerations is also included. With the help of this book, a college student, researcher and engineer can build a real LTS more easily and conveniently.
Braking systems have been continuously developed and improved throughout the last years. Major milestones were the introduction of antilock braking system (ABS) and electronic stability program. This reference book provides a detailed description of braking components and how they interact in electronic braking systems.
For wireless communication systems, the antenna is one of the most critical components. A good design of the antenna can relax system requirements and improve overall system performance. This book gives the design of a rectangular microstrip edge-fed and patch antenna array with a centre frequency of 13 GHz for Satellite applications whose frequency range is from 12 to 18GHz. A single element and 2×2 microstrip rectangular patch antennas was designed and simulated by using HFSS tool. The proposed patch antennas are used for RADAR and Satellite applications. The proposed antenna will be simulated for suitable frequencies in different applications for improving some antenna parameters like gain, return losses, radiation pattern, VSWR, etc.
Mit dem Titel ´´Die integrierte Anwendung von Managementsystemstandards´´ erhalten Anwender eine Übersetzung des englischsprachigen ISO-Handbuchs ´´The Integrated Use of Management System Standards (IUMSS)´´.
´A promising debut.´ New Scientist Icy, rocky, sometimes dusty, always mysterious - comets and asteroids are among the Solar System´s very oldest inhabitants, formed within a swirling cloud of gas and dust in the area of space that eventually hosted the Sun and its planets. Locked within each of these extra-terrestrial objects is the 4.6-billion-year wisdom of Solar System events, and by studying them at close quarters using spacecraft we can coerce them into revealing their closely-guarded secrets. This offers us the chance to answer some fundamental questions about our planet and its inhabitants. Exploring comets and asteroids also allows us to shape the story of Earth´s future, enabling us to protect our precious planet from the threat of a catastrophic impact from space, and maybe to even recover valuable raw materials from them. This cosmic bounty could be as useful in space as it is on Earth, providing the necessary fuel and supplies for humans as they voyage into deep space to explore more distant locations within the Solar System. Catching Stardust tells the story of these enigmatic celestial objects, revealing how scientists are using them to help understand a crucial time in our history - the birth of the Solar System, and everything contained within it.
New technology in vehicles is transforming the way people move around as well as what they do in their vehicles. How does one communicate with an in-car speech system and how does this vary by language or cultural community? This book explores this process by focusing on the communication practices that people engage in when using their in-car systems and when talking about their vehicles with co-passengers. Chapters present a robust theory and methodology for studying communication in cars, how tasks are begun and ended, how people switch between tasks, how non-task talk appears, what ways and styles of communication drivers prefer, and how they expect the system voice to respond, among other things. Particular attention is given to cultural preferences as they are evident in this communication; these preferences are found to ground various trajectories in the use and meaning of in-car communication practices. The book explores these matters with a focus on the United States and Mainland China. Implications are drawn for the design and utilization of in-car communication systems.
This book focuses on control techniques for LCL-type grid-connected inverters to improve system stability, control performance and suppression ability of grid current harmonics. Combining a detailed theoretical analysis with design examples and experimental validations, the book offers an essential reference guide for graduate students and researchers in power electronics, as well as engineers engaged in developing grid-connected inverters for renewable energy generation systems.
